Thanks for scoring today's cricket match; and double thanks from all the spectators and players for using 96* to do it. They'll get every ball, wicket, and score update pushed immediately to their phones if they're given the QR codes.

To launch the match and have a great day, follow these steps:

footsteps Pregame setup

  1. Visit the Squads tab to setup your batting order. Use the Add button to select players.
  2. Enter any new players' names into the Squads tab above to enter new players' names.

NOTE: only 12 players selected to play from both teams.

  3. If you hand out QR codes, the players/parents will help you by entering their own names and readiness to play today.
  4. Who won the toss?

Click the team name. If you don't know, you can set this in Match Settings later.

  5. Who is batting first?

Click the team name. We need to know this so we can setup the initial inings.

  6. Well done! You can now announce to the spectators who is batting first. You can then relax. You are ready to score the first ball.

If you made a mistake claiming the role of scorer, you can free yourself and perhaps no one will know.

footsteps Tips for Happy Scoring

We've scored many cricket matches before and we have some tips:

  1. Before you come to the ground, print out the QR codes to hand to players and spectators. If you bring them, someone else can walk around and hand them out. Then everyone can watch your live scoring action.

  2. Arrive at the game 30 minutes early. Figure out where the sun is going to be for the next few hours, find any useful shade, and setup your chair, table, and pergola if you've got one.
  3. Bring a power bank. It can be stressful watching your battery icon look empty.
  4. Ask the opposide team for their scorer. Also, start asking for their team sheet. Whilst you can add players during the match it is much more pleasant to enter both team's players before they head out on to the field.
  5. As soon as possible, ask the teams to toss a coin or bat, and to choose who is batting first. This is good for both teams, and for you.
  6. Announce to both teams that play starts in 10 minutes. It's probably not your job, but we'll be here all day if they don't start on time.
  7. Once the players and umpires are on the field, the umpire will call "scorers ready?"
  8. In the unlikely event that you have time to spare before the game starts, perhaps tell the other scorer a joke. "Knock knock", "Who's there?", T', "T' who?", "T'who for twenty t'who. What a catch!" Everyone loves a reference to the 12th Man albums. Well done.
  9. If you don't know the players' names, just yell out, "Bowler's name?"
  10. If you or the other scorer fall behind, or make a mistake, it is ok to ask play to stop.

Have a great day at the cricket!
